Employee Spotlight - Dean Evans

Project Engineer Dean Evans has been with Elmleigh for 3 ½ years and has had the opportunity to work on various projects with a variety of clients as well as adding a wealth of skills and experience under his belt. As part of learning from our employee’s experience, we sat down together to ask some questions about his time at Elmleigh thus far as well as some fun questions at the end;

How have you enjoyed your time at Elmleigh?

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Elmleigh so far. There are always new challenges, and no two days are the same. I have made some great friends in the time I have been at Elmleigh and have been made to feel like one of the family.

What do you consider your biggest achievement at Elmleigh?

That’s a tough one but I guess the SMSPS project at WSF Coventry which lasted the best part of 12 months. It was an extremely demanding project for all involved with regular targets and deadlines to meet in order to maintain customer satisfaction and production running at a maximum.

What new skills have you learnt on your journey so far?

I was initially employed as a Lead Electrician but have recently taken up a new role as a Project Engineer. I guess the main new skills I have learnt are how to price and quote new jobs, manage projects and liaise closely with customer to make sure that the project is delivered on time and to their expectations.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

The most favourite thing about my job is the variety of projects I work on, they can be anything from installing a few extra lights to installing a multimillion pound conveyor system, and of course meeting different people on my travels.

How do you balance your career at Elmleigh and family/personal time?

I try to spend as much time with my family as I can, so being organised and efficient at work during the week, hopefully makes for a nice relaxing weekend.

How has Elmleigh helped you in your career development?

Elmleigh have supported me through the transition from being a Lead Electrician to a Project Engineer. They continue to offer me new skills and courses to further my career.

What does a typical day for you look like?

I start the day by talking to the lads on site and setting them a task to complete. I might have meeting booked in with the customer regarding some additional works that may need quoting, or there might be task specific queries/ problems on site that need addressing. There are always materials that need ordering to keep the job progressing in the right direction.

If given the chance, who would you want to be for one day only?

Well, being a Leicester City fan, I would love to be Brendan Rogers for the day. Lets be honest, someone needs to sort them out at the minute.

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?

Bald is beautiful

What three words best describe you?

Conscientious – Hard working - Modest

Thank you, Dean, for your time and answers! We hope to spend much more time with you here at Elmleigh and help you to progress even further.
