Control System Upgrade: Integrating New Load Cells into a Legacy System

Derbyshire, January 2024

The Challenge

How do you complete a control system upgrade, integrating the latest control equipment into an incompatible legacy control system, with minimal modification and disruption to production schedules?

The Teams

The Solution

Elmleigh delivered on all mechanical, electrical, and software elements of this complex project, presenting the client with a bespoke solution designed around Siemens Control Systems.

We manufactured, installed and commissioned the system using SIWAREX Load Cell technology to replace the problematic existing level sensors on a raw materials mixing machine. This is a fully integrated solution, providing a resultant control signal output into the legacy control system.

The Outcome

The client now enjoys the benefits of accurate and reliable raw material dosing into their mixing application, creating a more consistent product, and gaining unforeseen benefits of improved performance and efficiency on upstream production lines.

From initial disconnection to final commissioning, all works were completed within existing production shutdown windows, creating a zero-impact changeover process.
