The challenge
Elmleigh was urgently commissioned by a client to support the critical fabrication and installation of side panels and access doors for a Dust and Fume Extraction Unit. The unit, at the time, lacked any external plating or access points, resulting in compromised performance. Without a proper enclosure, the system was unable to contain and extract airborne contaminants effectively, leading to the uncontrolled dispersion of dust and fumes throughout the wider workplace.

The Solution
To ensure a precise and efficient installation, Elmleigh’s mechanical team conducted a 3D scan of the unit. This enabled the drafting of a custom external enclosure, comprising side panels and two front access doors, designed to facilitate future maintenance activities.
The panels and doors were laser-cut to achieve high precision. Bespoke hinges and handles were fabricated and fitted to meet the specific requirements of the unit. Once assembled, the enclosure was powder-coated in blue to provide enhanced durability and protection against the harsh environmental conditions of the site.
Installation was carried out with support from the electrical team. The motor power cable was temporarily removed to allow for drilling and fitting of the new side and rear panels. Following this, the front doors were installed, and the motor power cable was reconnected to restore full functionality.
Outcome
The project was delivered efficiently and resolved the operational issues caused by the lack of enclosure. The newly fabricated and installed panels ensured the Dust and Fume Extraction Unit could operate at full capacity, significantly improving workplace safety and environmental control.
