The Challenge
Elmleigh’s mechanical department was contacted to support with supply of labour and fixings to complete a series of mechanical and safety-related installations. These included the installation of bespoke mechanical guards, by the client’s mechanical team, at specified locations, along with the installation of safety fencing in designated areas.
The Teams
The solution
The project was delivered through three dedicated teams, each assigned a distinct scope of work. The first team was responsible for working through a primary snag list during a scheduled shutdown period lasting four nights. The second team addressed a secondary set of snags during a subsequent shutdown. The third team supported the installation of safety fencing, which was carried out over five nights.
Each team operated within a strict six-hour nightly window, imposed by the requirement for the client’s operational processes to resume promptly. This constraint significantly limited the time available on site and required precise coordination and efficient execution.
Additionally, an issue arose with the mechanical guarding fabricated by the client’s mechanical team. Several components were incorrectly manufactured and did not meet the required specifications. As a result, the project team had to undertake on-site rework, including repurposing and bespoke fabrication, to ensure the guards were fit for purpose. This unplanned activity required rapid problem-solving and technical flexibility to maintain project progress.
