The challenge
Elmleigh was appointed to deliver a full electrical and mechanical upgrade to support the installation of new storage tanks and associated unloading systems for a jet fuel handling facility. The project covered power distribution, ATEX lighting, control system enhancements and mechanical pipework fabrication and installation.

The Solution
A new sub main distribution system was installed from the new transformer to the LV switchroom, incorporating a Schneider 4 way TP&N MCCB distribution board in a stainless steel enclosure. Above ground ladder rack containment was added to overcome limited duct capacity and provide long term resilience and expansion capability. Additional sub mains were installed to supply the power and lighting board and the unloading/loading control panel.
For the unloading system upgrade, Elmleigh provided new supplies to the control panel, reinstated all power and control wiring, and installed new earth bonding to the tank bund. Heavy duty cable tray was fitted around the tank farm and gantry to support the new cabling routes.
Eight Zone 1 ATEX LED floodlights were installed to illuminate the tank farm and unloading areas, complete with new lighting circuits, ATEX glands and compliant containment. Further enhancements included an Ex rated Grundfos SLV.65 sump pump with a manual DOL start/stop station, and four ATEX rated Rotork actuated Zwick triple offset valves, supplied fully assembled, factory tested, and fitted with position feedback and local control capability.
Two additional Zone 1 emergency stop stations were integrated into the daisy chain safety circuit, and new level instrumentation was connected to the site control system with new panel indicators.
The mechanical scope covered the design, fabrication and installation of stainless steel pipework and support bracketry, verified with pre and post installation 3D laser scans. Over 110 metres of stainless steel pipework was installed from the intake area to the new tanks, including prefabricated tees, isolation valves and tie ins.
